Astrophotography? Why Yes!

This past summer I pulled out a Celestron Telescope that was given to me by my employer as a service anniversary gift.  It's nothing special.  I used it to observe Saturn and Jupiter.

I'd say my fleeting image of Jupiter was something like this but it would only last for 10 seconds or so before it left the eyepiece.  The Powerseeker 60AZ doesn't track with the earth rotation.  So, now what...?

The observing I did was cool but it was the setup and steps all the way up to the observing that I found cool.  It did play into my inner geekiness with technology which percolated. Do I go bigger and better? Tracking functionality?   Well, of course.

And then... blam.  I stumbled onto a separate branch of the astronomy world: Astrophotography.  It hits all the buttons, technology, nature, and geekiness.

So a lot of research later and I have a Canon 800D (T7i) on the way that I grabbed from Ebay and another astrophotography beginner who was upgrading.

More to come.

  1. There's nothing worse than a USPS tracking number that stops showing progress.
